Restaurant ‘34′ *****
In Carabeo, the heart of Nerja, just a few minutes level stroll from the Balcon de Europa, this is a beautiful and sympathetically restored Andalusia house. The British owners have gathered together a remarkable collection of antiques and art, which furnish the sitting room and restaurant. The wood panelled dining room overlooks a beautiful garden with elevated views over the Mediterranean and along the coastline. Fresh Mediterranean seafood, meats from the heartlands of Spain and seasonal game are found on the concise menu with clear English translations. Each evening the chef offers an eclectic selection of ’specials’. There is also a fine selection of digestifs, ports and fine Brandy. Service is friendly and informal.
Very popular with locals and visitors alike particularly for special occasions. To book call 952 52 54 44.
La Paralla Ayo ***
Burriana Beach restaurant with excellent broad ranging menu. Paella is the speciality cooked in enormous pans on an open fire. Ayo is acknowledged throughout Andalusia as the top Paella chef. Lunchtime only except two evenings per week in summer when there is a live Flamenco dance spectacular. This is THE meeting place for Sunday lunch where a roast leg of pork sits on the barbeque and is served with delicious sautéed vegetables.
Haveli **
If you want ‘an Indian’ this is the ‘only game in town’! All the usual – tandoori, kormas and breads. Everything you would expect and no surprises. Quite reliable. Open air terrace upstairs. Situated near the town centre.
Bella Roma ***
This truly authentic Italian restaurant is a must! Fantastic selection of fresh pasta and pizza combined with all the usual Italian favourites – entrecote pizziola, escalope Milanese and a wonderful seafood risotto. Buzzy and lively Italian atmosphere and traditional friendly Italian service combined with really excellent value makes this one of the most popular family restaurants in town. Situated in the small plaza on the town side of the Balcon de Europa where there are numerous restaurants and bars with outside terrace seating. Try to book and don’t miss this one!! Very family friendly.
Café New Orleans ***
Steve and Brandon both came from New Orleans to Nerja and brought all their favourite Creole recipes! Prawn Gumbo, Cajun meatloaf, slow cooked ribs, a wonderful selection of fresh salads and American sandwiches complete the dinner menu in this comfortable and attractive restaurant. Don’t miss the chocolate desserts to round off a truly southwestern American evening. Great music too – classic dinner jazz! Café New Orleans is located in Calle Los Huertos just behind Verde Mar and Edificio Carabeo II & I. Recommended for a quality romantic meal!
El Puente***
Literally on the old river bridge. Popular pull-up for lorries and commercial travellers, so, basic but large portions of good honest wholesome Spanish food. On all but the hottest days, have Spanish bean soup… WONDERFUL!!! Strongly recommended!
Brilliant Tapas!
